We encourage you to delve into the details of your air conditioner. Specifically, the age of your AC. Although it may seem trivial, knowing the age and condition of your air conditioner can provide valuable insight as a homeowner and help you plan for the future accordingly. Why? Well, with proper maintenance, air conditioners typically have a good lifespan of 15 to 20 years. So, being aware of your unit’s age will ensure you’re prepared for any unforeseen challenges if your AC decides to retire unexpectedly. Being caught off guard is never a pleasant experience, after all.

If you have misplaced your air conditioner’s paperwork and have no idea how old your air conditioner is, follow these straightforward steps provided by your Springboro Heating & Cooling professionals to uncover the precise age of your air conditioner:

Step One: Locate the Manufacture Date on the Outdoor Unit (the Condenser)

First, start your small HVAC quest by heading outside to your outdoor unit, also known as the condenser. You can easily spot it as the large metal box in your backyard or by the side of your house. On one of its sides, you’ll find a nameplate containing essential information about the unit. Then look towards the upper right corner for the manufacture date, often labeled as MFR DATE or something along those lines. If not found there, check the top of the nameplate, as it’s a common spot for the manufacture date to be hidden. However, if you still don’t see it, move on to step number two.

Step Two: Utilize the Digital World (Online)

If the manufacture date still has yet to be uncovered, it’s time to embrace your inner detective. Do this by jotting down the model, brand, and serial number from the nameplate. A quick photo from your phone will suffice, too, as long as you have all three key details. Now, with the appropriate information in hand, type these three details, followed by the phrase “manufacture date,” into your preferred online search engine, then click search. Multiple websites should populate, offering specific instructions to decode your particular AC model’s manufacture date. Congrats! The power of research and perseverance will lead you to unveil your air conditioner’s age.
