5 HVAC Troubleshooting Tips Every Homeowner Should Know

Our heating and cooling systems are a luxury that sometimes aren’t remembered until they malfunction. While they provide the simple luxury of hot and cold air in our homes, they are complicated machines that require maintenance. If you’re having trouble with your HVAC system then you may be unsure about what your next step should be. So we at Springboro Heating & Cooling have 5 HVAC troubleshooting tips that every homeowner should know.

  1. Be Aware

Many HVAC problems can be solved by simply observing your system. For instance, by listening for unusual noises, you can typically pinpoint whether the problem is electrical or not. You can also pay attention to when the problems occur. By simply being aware, you can get a headstart on exactly what and where the problem is.

  1. Check the Air Filter

Most common problems that homeowners in Ohio have with their HVAC systems can be traced back to a dirty air filter. Make sure to check and replace the air filter if you notice a problem with your heating and cooling system. This will often eliminate the problem.

  1. Check Every Part of Your System

By doing a quick rundown of every part of your HVAC system, you can sometimes spot problems. Check your furnace, thermostat, outdoor unit, vents, and ducts are all intact and functioning properly.

  1. Clean!

If you notice things piling up around our furnace or debris gathering around your outdoor unit, you should remove it right away! There should be at least a two foot radius around both your furnace and your outdoor unit.

  1. Those Darn Air Ducts

I know one problem in my house is that half the family bumps their heads on overhanging air ducts in our storage room. It’s a common occurrence, and as a result, our air ducts are in danger of being torn or bent. It’s important to examine your air ducts for tears or unusual kinks because they can lead to frustrating problems with the rest of your system.
