Indoor Air Quality 101 – Part 3: Products & Services We Offer to Improve Your Indoor Air Quality?

In the first half of this series, we explored the importance of Indoor Air Quality and some common types of indoor air pollution and their health effects.

Now, in Part 3, we at Springboro Heating & Cooling will review the various products and services we offer Clark County residents to help them improve Indoor Air Quality. By doing so, experts say, homeowners can improve their overall well-being, health, brain function, energy levels and mood.

Below is a list of the more popular products and services we offer:

The iWave-R

The iWave-R is an air purification system particularly useful in the wake of COVID-19. The iWave-R fits inside any ducted AC system. When air flows over the iWave ion generator it purifies the supply going into the home of viruses, pathogens, allergens, particles, mold, bacteria, smoke and odors, resulting in a healthier indoor air supply without any harmful byproducts.

Employing a one of a kind technology, the iWave-R mirrors the method nature uses to clean the air. Using the energy and pressure of ocean waves, waterfalls and lightning, nature breaks up molecules and naturally cleans the air to create a healthy breathing environment. The biggest difference between the iWave’s technology and the way nature does it is how the iWave doesn’t produce harmful ozone as a byproduct the way nature does.

The iWave-R can be used in any type of AC system, as long as it has air ducts and weighs no more than six tons. Once installed, it won’t need maintenance or replacement parts. And, it cleans itself.

Humidifiers

Humidifiers increase the moisture in the air in a home. This moisture raises the level of humidity in a residence, including the air you breathe, and this goes a long way in alleviating a lot of cold-weather symptoms. Humidifiers also help reduce the static electricity in your home (which is common during winter in Ohio) and help reduce dry cracking in furniture and paint. Another way humidifiers help is that they improve indoor air quality and alleviate all sorts of health problems.

Finally, humidifiers are popular because they can actually help you reduce your energy bills.

Dehumidifiers

We Ohioans know all-too-well how humid it can get during the summer months. When those hot and humid days arrive, it has the best of us seeking cool shelter indoors. But what do we do when it gets humid inside, when you can feel the moisture in the air or smell that musty odor? Officials say the relative level of humidity in a home should be sustained between 30 and 50 percent. When it goes higher than 50 percent, it makes your home uncomfortable and it makes the air unhealthy. This can cripple your AC system’s efficiency and irritate allergy symptoms and asthma. It also promotes the development and growth of mold and mildew, which can lead to health problems in a healthy person. Investing in a whole home dehumidifier, however, will boost your Indoor Air Quality by sustaining healthy humidity levels. This makes them a smart investment to ensure you and your family’s overall health and comfort.

Thermostats

Today’s modern thermostats are a world apart from those old hockey-puck-looking dials on the wall a lot of us grew up seeing. In addition to their cool features and designs and fancy LED displays, these thermostats can be controlled from any smartphone or smart device. They are very much compatible with most Indoor Air Quality products.

With smart thermostats, you can control a lot more than your heating and cooling systems, but also regulate air purifiers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, ventilation systems and any other IAQ components. The newer thermostats on the market are mostly smart devices. They are designed to save energy, reduce overall costs and eliminate waste. Because they are more advanced, or “smart,” they have greater control over your indoor air quality. As such, getting a thermostat upgrade means better efficiency and a more even temperature consistency throughout your home.

This will save you money on utility bills and keep your HVAC system operating at its peak while improving the quality of air you and your loved ones breathe for better overall wellness and health.

Some of the top brands we carry include Honeywell, Nest and Ecobee.

Air Filters

Upgrading your air filters is another strategy for improving your indoor air quality. It’s important to know, however, that not all air filters were created equally. And, it’s very important to remember they need to be changed regularly to be work.

If you’re working to improve indoor air quality, be mindful that the inexpensive washable fiberglass air filters hardly even improve the performance of your HVAC system, let alone improve the quality of the air you breathe. Upgrading to an air filter with a better MERV rating will go a long way, in addition to upgrading to a thicker filter, like a four-inch filter rather than the standard one-inch filter that’s most common.

MERV, which is short for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, rates air filters on a scale of 1 to 16, with 16 being the highest rated air filter. Usually, residential HVAC systems can’t use a filter rated above 13 on the MERV scale.

UV Lights

For many many years, the only methods a homeowner had to improve Indoor Air Quality was centered around ventilation, humidity control and filtration devices. And while these methods worked in many ways, none of them could do anything about biological contaminants such as mold, bacteria, viruses and fungi ‒ the deadly “dark side” of indoor air pollution.

Then one day someone switched on the light, the UV Light that is.

Getting Ultra Violet lamps installed inside an HVAC system adds an extra level of protection against these ultra-hazardous organic indoor air pollutants. For those who are susceptible to allergens and other hazardous organic particles, UV lamps are very effective because they kill these allergens along with germs before they get circulated into the air throughout the home. When these pollutants pass under these UV Lights, it kills them instantly and neutralizes the air before it ever gets to you.

Air Duct Cleaning

If you’re looking for a way to improve your indoor air quality, ensure airflow efficiency and remove certain fragrances in your home, having us clean your air ducts will help.

Because your air ducts are responsible for transporting all your heated or cooled air from your HVAC system to all the different rooms in your home, one must realize that keeping this air as clean as possible depends on the cleanliness of these air ducts.

As part of our professional duct cleaning service, we remove accumulated dirt, dust and grime that tends to cling to the interior walls of air ducts. This cleaning helps to eliminate allergens and certain unpleasant odors. Getting this stuff out is important, because even though you don’t see it, sooner or later it ends up in the air you breathe.

We at Springboro Heating & Cooling care not only about your home comfort levels, but also about the health of you and your loved ones.
